Steel is a 100% recyclable material and does not lose quality in each recycling cycle. Thanks to this property, the shipbuilding industry is a natural part of the circular economy.
Cutting Waste
Steel offcuts (skeleton material) generated in the CNC cutting process are sent to electric arc furnaces (EAF) via licensed scrap companies. CMS AS's steel waste recycling rate is 98.7%; only contaminated or unidentifiable small pieces are disposed of.
Economic Value
Recovered steel can be sold for approximately 60-70% of the cost of new raw material. This income covers about 3% of our annual production costs. More importantly, steel production from recycled material uses 72% less energy and emits 58% less CO₂ compared to primary sources.
