Digital Transformation in Maritime: CAD/CAM and BIM

Digital tools are radically changing the entire process from ship design to production. We address the contributions of CAD/CAM integration and Building Information Modeling to shipyards.

Ship design no longer happens at paper drawing tables but in three-dimensional digital environments. This fundamental change is transforming not only the design process but also production planning, material procurement and maintenance management.

3D CAD Integration

Thanks to fully parametric 3D models, every change is automatically reflected in all related drawings. Collision analyses are performed in the computer environment, minimizing rework in the field. Using this technology, CMS AS has reduced design errors by 65% over the last 5 years.

CNC Cutting Precision

CNC cutting programs generated directly from 3D models are transferred to plasma and laser cutting machines. Thanks to this integration, material waste has dropped from 12% to 4%, and cutting precision has reached ±0.5 mm.

Digital Twin

On some large projects a digital twin of the ship is created to run simulation-based tests. This approach enables problems to be detected before real tests, offering savings in time and cost.
