Blasting & Surface Preparation
Blasting and surface preparation services to SA2.5 / SA3 standards
The Stage That Determines Coating Lifespan: Surface Preparation
Roughly eighty percent of the success of an industrial paint and coating system depends on the quality of surface preparation before application. Even the highest-quality coating system applied to an inadequately prepared steel surface will lead to premature corrosion and coating failure. At CMS AS, blasting and surface preparation are treated as a distinct area of expertise, carried out by experienced operators in full compliance with international standards.
Methods and Equipment
With both open-area and enclosed blasting booth capabilities, we offer abrasive media options (steel shot, garnet, aluminium oxide) suited to different project scales.
- Blasting to Sa 2.5 and Sa 3 cleanliness grades per ISO 8501-1
- Surface roughness (profile) measurement and control
- Salt contamination testing and dust/dirt level control (ISO 8502)
- Enclosed booth and open-site blasting applications
- Environmental controls: dust containment barriers, abrasive recovery systems
Quality Control
After every surface preparation operation, ambient humidity/temperature readings, dew point checks and surface profile measurements are recorded. This data forms part of the quality file provided to the client alongside subsequent coating application reports.
Why CMS AS?
We view surface preparation not as mere "preparation for painting" but as an integral part of the coating system itself — an approach that delivers long-term corrosion protection and lower life-cycle cost.
