NB14 - Hydra Steel Block Fabrication
Steel block fabrication and blasting-painting works on Hydra under Norse Group.
CMS AS took end-to-end responsibility for steel production and outfitting on the NB14 - Hydra Steel Block Fabrication project at NORSE GROUP. With a modern machine park and a qualified workforce, CMS AS sustained the required quality even under tight schedule pressure. The balance of time, cost and quality was observed at every stage of the project.
Scope of Work
Services provided by CMS AS throughout the project:
- Block Fabrication: Fabrication of ship blocks through CNC cutting and forming of steel plate and panel-line assembly.
- Surface & Coating: Surface preparation (abrasive blasting) and protective coating for corrosion protection.
- Steel Fabrication: Industrial steel-structure fabrication, machining and welded assembly.
Engineering & Execution
Traceable material management, in-process inspections and final-control steps kept production under control from start to finish, with non-conformities resolved quickly on site. Transitions between work items were planned with site safety and efficiency in mind. Material certificates, welding records and inspection reports were fully documented to preserve complete traceability.
Standards & Quality Assurance
Production was completed in full compliance with international maritime and industrial standards. Welding was performed to WPS/WPQR-approved procedures and verified by NDT (UT/RT and visual inspection). Surface preparation was to ISO 8501-1 (Sa 2½) cleanliness and the protective coating applied to an ISO 12944 system.
As a result, a robust steel structure that will add value for years was delivered. The project was thus completed in line with budget and schedule targets. The experience CMS AS has accumulated in shipbuilding and industrial steel since 1990 makes it a trusted solution partner for shipyards.
